Clyde "Malachi" Penniston

Guitarist, Composer, Singer and Songwriter
Clyde "Malachi" Penniston was born on the tiny beautiful island of Bequia, in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Although in his home country the predominant music is calypso and soca, from an early age he was captivated by the pulsating sounds of Dancehall reggae. He describes his musical style as a wicked combination of soca, soul, hip hop and reggae.

He remembers toasting hot verses and hokes over hip hop and dancehall beats in bars and clubs around his home town, and credits his early influences to Alston "Becket" Cyrus, Buju Banton, Peter Tosh, Tupac and Lionel Richie. Encouraged by his long time friend and cousin , Malachi began nurturing his skills on guitar and elevated his career to a hold new level. In 2000 they combined their efforts to release the "Busout rhythm" (produced by Mandrike), a barrage of Dancehall songs; the first project of this kind to come out of St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Malachi wrote three of the songs and performed one himself, which received wide airplay and great admiration from fans. The highlight came when they opened for Jamaican reggae band Morgan Heritage; he describes the experience as overwhelming: "the crowd was in a frenzy by the time we spit the first verse", to say it in his own words. They later went on to help form "Sound Machine" band, entertaining foreigners and locals alike.

In 2001 Malachi and friends teamed up to form the notorious "Flex" band, jamming onboard Carnival and Norwegian Cruise lines. In that same year he toured with New Direction, a recording band out of Bequia, performing at Caribana events in Toronto Canada.

You can catch him performing with Maffie and Crew or his band "Shizzle", giving an electrifing performance everytime they hit the stage. It is Malachi's wish that his music may be an inspiration to youths in his hometown and an upliftment to the underprivileged all accross the world.
